I hope you enjoy today’s social. I know that all involved work to this end.
Past-president Peter Gibson has now moved on and will be enjoying life travelling and touring overseas. We offered our thanks to Peter for his efforts as president at our last club meeting. The leadership role of president of a club is not an easy one. There is much to do to keep the big picture and so much responsibility, time and effort involved with the position. Peter has done this and all credit to him. Thanks again Peter.
At the last club meeting, positions were thrown open and some folk offered to take executive roles and were elected by the members to carry out these roles until the annual general meeting. They are as follows:-
President – Jeffrey Thorpe
Vice President – Joan Calderwood
Secretary – [vacant at meeting] – Donna Andrews has since been appointed by the executive in accordance with the constitution.
Treasurer – Judy Oxley
Club Musical Director - Jeffrey Thorpe.
A full list of people and the functions they perform will be published in the next newsletter. So there we are. After a rocky patch comes a new beginning!!
I have chosen to put my hand up now because I believe that the Bribie Island Country Music Club has an excellent past and an equally bright future. A few years ago, the club was rated in the top three in Australia. I think that was wrong – it should have been number one and I would like to think that, if we all pull together, this can be achieved.
I have no interest in dwelling on recent events. Here we are now, life is short and my prime consideration is only for the future success of the club. A big thanks to you the audience – you really are the key to the socials because, without you, there is no-one to perform to. Thanks heaps for your continued support. Please tell your friends – or better, bring a friend. We also extend a renewed welcome to all of our wonderful walk-ups. You folk certainly bring variety to the day and are what the club is all about!!.
All the best Jeff
P.S. – BIG REMINDER---MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS ARE DUE THIS MONTH. THERE ARE FORMS ON QUEENIE’S TABLE. ASK FOR JUDY.
P.S. Walk-ups please note that increased focus will be on chording and song tempos at club rehearsals – more info on this to come at the next meeting.
MUSICAL DIRECTOR’S REPORT
LAST MONTH It was so great to have the amazing harmonies of Sista Burley at our last social. It is good to see locals who have done well and these girls certainly have. They are pretty modest but they have achieved a lot in the country field including an album, radio hits, EP’s, country competition winners and more. Once again it was great to see the number of walk-ups that were onstage during the day……so much variety!!!
THIS MONTH we welcome guest artist Drew Bennedict. Drew is one of Queensland's best cover artists with twenty years’ experience performing all over Queensland in both bands and as a solo artist. His ability to recreate the sounds of his chosen artists makes his performance one you just can't miss. So sit back and enjoy!!
NEXT MONTH our guest artists are The Red Rockettes---If you’re a
fan of the 50’s and 60’s then this show is for you! They are an all-girl,
four-piece vocal group aged between 13-15 - but don't let their age fool you!
Their vocals, harmonies, moves and grooves will have you enjoying hits such as ‘Rock
Around The Clock’, ‘Jailhouse Rock’ and ‘Great Balls of fire’-- just to name a
few---all over again!! For booking
