PRESIDENT’S PIECE

Hi All,

Another great social!  Once again many hands pitched in to help make the day a success!!

Audience numbers were very pleasing. The complete ‘Hot Band’ was on stage and up to their usual excellent standard. Walk-ups had an opportunity to make a second appearance on stage and our guest artists , the Red Rockettes, gave us a thoroughly professional performance with great choreography and harmonies—thanks girls.

Unfortunately I have injured by back since taking this position and consequently have been unable to assist at the level I would have wished. I wish to extend my thanks to Joan, Donna and Judy for their energy in ensuring that ‘that the show goes on!!’—thanks ladies.

All the best   Jeff

VICE-PRESIDENT’S PIECE

I, too, wish to thank everyone for pulling together to make sure that the job gets done!!

As you’re probably aware by now, the forthcoming state election ‘threw a spanner in the works’ and forced us to move our social forward a week. Robbie was especially pro-active in getting us a new guest artist as the Gleemen were unable to appear on the re-scheduled date.  I’d also like to thank Pam Watt and Janice Brown who helped spread the word through facebook of the re-scheduled social.

See you today at the social   Joan

JANUARY SOCIAL – CANCELLED

It was decided at the A.G.M., due to having to find a suitable alternative venue, moving the sound equipment, a clash with Tamworth and the long weekend, that the January Social would be cancelled.  The committee apologise for any inconvenience and we would appreciate everyone passing the word around.

The next social will be held as usual at the Bribie Island Recreation Hall on Sunday, 25 February 2018.             We look forward to seeing you all there.

We would like to wish you all a
        Very Merry Christmas and
     Happy & Healthy New Year.

                                                                    KEEP IT COUNTRY….

Three contractors are bidding to fix a broken fence at Government House.

One is from Ipswich, another is from Sandgate, and the third is from Peregian Beach.

All three go with an official to examine the fence. The Ipswich contractor takes out a tape measure and does some measuring, then works some figures on his laptop.

"Well," he says, "I figure the job will run about $900, $400 for materials, $400 for my crew and $100 profit for me."

The Sandgate contractor also does some measuring and figuring, then says, "I can do this job for $700.That's $300 for materials, $300 for my crew and $100 profit for me."

The Peregian Beach contractor doesn't measure or figure, but leans over to the government official and whispers,"$2,700.”

The official, incredulous, says, "You didn't even measure like the other guys. How did you come up with such ahigh figure?"

The Peregian Beach contractor whispers back, "$1000 for me, $1000 for you, and we hire the guy from Sandgate to fix the fence." "Done!" Replies the government official.

And that, my fellow taxpayers, is how a Government Stimulus plan works.

November Guest Artist           Biography    Rod Williams

A name well known in the eastern states of Australia, 1980-1988 as an accomplished singer/song writer recording artist. Rod has been blessed with a strong rich voice which has allowed him to perform in some of the best venues throughout Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria, including RSL’s, Hotel’s, Festival’s and Club’s, etc.
Affectionately dubbed “Australia’s Country Music Gentleman” by the music press, because of his attire and presentation, is a tag Rod wears with pride. After more than 20 years off the music scene Rod is making a comeback and is still going strong today writing and recording many fabulous songs and singing with the same rich velvet smooth voice he is known for. Two more albums, both recorded in 2009 are "Reminiscing", a collection of some of Rod’s favourites and "Sings Hank". This album has some of the best Hank Williams numbers covered beautifully in his own smooth style and all albums are available on his new website.
